Some extra tips what to do at Brno and Moravia...

Nature

- Moravian Karst and its caves "Punkevní" or "Sloup-Šošůvka". - These are at least part of the day open (https://visit.caves.cz). Both caves are comparatively big and beautiful.
a) For Punkevní cave:
* It is open every day expect Monday 8:40 - 14:00. Tours are capped at 54 people with 40 minutes between groups limit. Lenght is 60 min.
* Reservation is not mandatory, but highly recommended (e. g. it is not impossible for it to get full, call them before so you don't end up just wasting your time going there!). Contact for reservation: +420 516 413 575, e-mail: info@caves.cz
* There is not any public transport going all the way there off-season. Best for people that have a car (choose road through Lipůvka in GPS). Or you can get train from Brno to "Blansko", and bus from "Blansko" to "Vilémovice, Macocha Rozc." (use IDOS web/phone app to search for connections), and from there walk 1,9 km to "Propast Macocha" (Macocha abyss - nice to see too!), and from Macocha abyss use cableway to the Punkevní cave (100 Kč both ways). This way it should be possible to get from Brno to the caves in bit less than 2 hours (our untested estimate). After seeing the caves return the same way. This means that going by public transport you should start from Brno on the 29th December with 8:01 or 10:01 train, on 30th or 31th December with the 9:01 train. Third option would be to go by train to Blansko and than take a taxi - this way you could use a later train.

b) For Sloup-Šošůvka cave:
* In winter there are only tours starting at 10:00, 12:00 and 13:00, every day except Monday. They are capped at 20 people. Lenght is 70 min.
* Reservation is officially mandatory (though I got impression they don't enforce their rules much). Contact for reservation: 516 435 335, e-mail: sloupskososuvske@caves.cz
* Public transport going close to the caves exists. Get train from Brno to "Blansko", and bus from "Blansko" to "Sloup" (use IDOS web/phone app to search for connections), and from there walk 0,5 km to "Sloupsko-Šošůvské jeskyně" cave entrance. After seeing the caves return the same way. Another possibility might be to go by train only to Blansko and then take a taxi.

- Pálava Protected Landscape Area - You can visit this area with the planned morning trip on 30th, but if you will miss it, you might want to come here some other time on your own. Map of a hiking path to see the best of Pálava here.

Architecture and history

- Villa Tugendhat in Brno - If you are into modern stuff. The villa cost over 20 million EUR to build if we would adjust for inflation. You can have a look at it from the garden for 50 CZK (inside tours would have to be booked months in advance). (https://www.tugendhat.eu/en/basic-information.html)

- Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape - This was the former stomping ground of some of the wealthiest families of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and you can still see the glint of this old money in places such as Valtice and Lednice. The interiors are unfortunately mostly closed off-season but it should be still worth looking at them even from the outside.
Our suggestions:
* Go to Lednice and see the area around the château - this inludes stuff like Minaret.
* Go to Valtice and walk to Kolonáda na Rajstně

- Porta Coeli - Nice cloister, and unlike many other places it is open in winter.

Bars and pubs in Brno

- Bar, který neexistuje - A famous bar, and the whole area between it and sv. Jakuba church is sometimes like a one big party place.

- Super Panda Circus - Supposedly the best bar in Brno (if not the whole Central Europa). Almost impossible to find a place with a bigger group though.

Beer places in Brno recommended by English beer lover Liam Proven:
[1] JBM Brew Lab Pub -- great little craft bar.
[2] Ochutnávková Pivnice -- lively boozer, splendid selection.
[3] Lucky Bastard Beerhouse -- a brewery tap, with many guests.
[4] Zelená Kočka Pivarium (not so much the other Zelená Kočka places)
[5] Hotel Pegas Brno -- a personal favourite, but not very "crafty".
[6] Pub U Dvou přátel -- not been to the new branch in the centre, but the original is great.
[7] U Bláhovky -- only 1 beer, but you've never tasted Pilsner Urquell until you've tasted this. A religious experience. Genuine Czech traditional pub.
[8] Výčep Na stojáka Pekanda -- this branch is quieter; no queues!
[9] Magistr - domácí pivovar a restaurace -- out of the centre, but good.
[10] Craftbeer bottle shop & bar
